USING YOUR PERSONAL LASERWRITER NTR WITH WINDOWS 3.1
     ----------------------------------------------------

     POSTSCRIPT DRIVER
Use the PostScript driver from your original Windows disk set or obtain
the latest Windows driver from Microsoft customer support. Your
Personal Laserwriter NTR will operate with versions of the PostScript
printer driver for Microsoft Windows 3.1 greater than 3.50.

At the time this document was created, the latest PostScript printer
driver for Microsoft Windows 3.1 was version 3.55.

     PAPER TRAYS
The Windows printer driver's Paper Source and the Personal Laserwriter
NTR's Paper Trays are named differently. The following table shows the
paper trays that correspond to the Windows paper source options:

WINDOWS PAPER SOURCE PERSONAL LASERWRITER NTR PAPER TRAY
          -------------------- -----------------------------------
          Upper Tray Multipurpose Tray

     ENVELOPE FEEDING
The icon on the printer's Multipurpose Tray does not match the envelope
feed direction for Windows version 3.1. Place envelopes in the Envelope
Feeder or Multipurpose Tray address-side down and stamp-end first.

LaserWriter is connected, you must set up the printer driver again.
See the documentation that came with your computer and software
         for more information.

USING YOUR PERSONAL LASERWRITER NTR WITH WINDOWS 3.0
     ----------------------------------------------------

     POSTSCRIPT DRIVER
Use the PostScript driver from your original Windows disk set or obtain
the latest Windows 3.0 driver from Microsoft customer support.

     PAPER TRAYS
The Windows printer driver's Paper Source and the Personal Laserwriter
NTR's Paper Trays are named differently. The following table shows the
paper trays that correspond to the Windows paper source options:

WINDOWS PAPER SOURCE PERSONAL LASERWRITER NTR PAPER TRAY
          -------------------- -----------------------------------
          Upper Tray Multipurpose Tray
Lower Tray 250-Sheet Paper Cassette (default)
          Envelope Tray Envelope Cassette (optional)
          Envelope Manual Multipurpose Tray
          Manual Feed Multipurpose Tray

     ENVELOPE FEEDING
The icon on the printer's multipurpose tray DOES match the envelope feed
     direction for Windows version 3.0.

     MULTIPLE PRINTER DEFINITIONS
The Windows 3.0 PostScript printer driver allows for a total of five
installed printer definitions. Printer definitions added after the first
five are ignored by Windows. Printing may fail if you try to print to a
specified printer when more than five definitions are installed.

To reduce the number of printer definitions installed with your
PostScript printer driver, make the following changes in your WIN.INI
     file:

     1. Find the [PSCRIPT] section in the WIN.INI file. The section should
         look like this:

         [PSCRIPT]
         External Printers=4
         printer1=qrs415
         printer2=pdp432
         printer3=lwntx
         printer4=tl3323

     2. Delete lines with unneeded printer definitions.
     3. Renumber the remaining printers, starting with 1.
     4. Change the value for "External Printers" to reflect the new total.
Remember, only the first five printer definitions can be accessed by
         Windows applications.

     USING THE PRINTER UTILITY SOFTWARE
     ----------------------------------

Included on this disk are utility files to print the Configuration Page
and the Cleaning Page. The following files are located in the NTR
     UTILITY directory:

         FILE FUNCTION
CONFIGPG.PS Print current printer configuration settings
CLEANPG.PS Print the Cleaning Page using the Multipurpose tray

     PRINTING THE CONFIGURATION PAGE
The Configuration Page provides information on the current configuration
and status of your printer. To print the Configuration Page, type:

         COPY A:\PLW_NTR\UTILITY\CONFIGPG.PS LPT1: <Enter>

     PRINTING THE CLEANING PAGE
The Cleaning Page is a file that you print each time you install a new
toner cartridge. This process removes any buildup of toner on the rollers
inside the printer. You can also use the Cleaning Page at any other time
as a remedy if your printed pages are not coming out perfectly clean.

For IBM PCs and compatible computers, the Cleaning Page is a PostScript
file called CLEANPG.PS that you download to the printer.

     1. Move to the PLW_NTR\UTILITY directory of the LaserWriter Software for
Microsoft Windows disk, where the Cleaning Page is located.

     2. Open the multipurpose tray.

     3. Feed a sheet of paper through the manual feed tray.

     4. At a DOS command prompt, type:

         COPY CLEANPG.PS LPT1: <Enter>

The Cleaning Page prints. It contains only a wide, black stripe.

     5. Take out the printed page, turn it over, and feed it again through
the multipurpose tray, printed side up.

     6. Once again, at the DOS command prompt, type:

         COPY CLEANPG.PS LPT1: <Enter>

When the page is printed, the cleaning process is finished. You can
         discard the printed Cleaning Page.
